A live chat on your trading website or platform can turn out to be one of the most interesting offerings you have ever thought of. It allows you to provide your traders with benefits they would have never imagined before. For a stock trader keeping track of the news alerts, live streams, stock prices, and announcements become a key thing. Thus, having a platform where you can get these updates in an easy and timely manner can work wonders.

Let’s see a few of the powerful ways to use live chat on your trading website:

1. Single platform for all the stock related communication

What could be better than to have most of the traders on a single platform sharing stock information and news alerts? This especially works in cases where your customers are novice traders and need first-hand easy access. Having communication with a few of the expert traders or taking opinion before making a call makes it a fairly easy job through a chatroom. There are multiple eyeballs sharing information. Here is a screenshot of how the traders are a having discussion on one of our customer’s website.

2. Share files, charts, graphs, and videos over chat

While communicating with other stock traders it becomes essential to prove your point using live images, graphs, video or illustrations. Having a chat option which allows users to share information such as a graph depicting the fluctuations in stock prices over a period of time or news alert discussing how the stock is fairing in the market or a stock alert becomes a crucial thing.

3. Create multiple chatrooms for different stock related discussions

Within a chatroom, you have the ability to create multiple rooms for a variety of discussions. For example, you can create different private chatrooms for different types of stocks (above $x, below $x) or you can have a chatroom especially for the Q&A (question and answer) wherein an expert can resolve the doubts of the newbies. Another chatroom could be strictly moderated and can be used to post alerts, stock watchlist, the latest press release of specific stocks, etc.

4. Provide networking opportunities

To be able to provide traders the option to follow hundreds of members trading in a similar style and trade comprehensively and synergistically becomes a key thing for a stock trading website. Thus a chatroom provides them an option to follow expert traders and discuss strategies on the go and prevents traders from making bad decisions.

5. Real-time information sharing on the go

During stock trading minutes and even seconds play a crucial role. Thus, a chat solution which loads super-fast and without delay (during message syncing or uploading files) helps members share crucial information such as live updates is required. Also, it should be able to support large number of members without any performance issues. Our chat solution, iFlyChat, due to its asynchronous syncing design syncs msgs on the go with 0% delay and performance issue.

6. Ability to moderate the chats

It becomes utmost necessary for you to be able to moderate the stock discussions especially when even seconds play a very crucial role during the trading. Thus chatrooms which provide you with the ability to moderate or block content/users is a mandatory thing. Having been able to set standards/guidelines so that the users might have a clutter-free discussion becomes of utmost importance. Here is a screenshot of some of the features a moderator has access to on iFlyChat chatroom.

The long wait is finally over. We have been getting numerous requests over the past couple of months to introduce a recent section in the chat which would allow users to see all their previous conversations at one place. Guess what? Your dream has come true! 🙂

We are showing only 5 recent conversations in the chat app right now. This limit will be increased going forward. It will be eventually configured to show all your previous conversations.

The recent section can be enabled/disabled from the chat app dashboard. To do so, go to the dashboard and click on Settings > App and then set Show Recent Chat Section to Yes/No

How does iFlyChat Translation work?
Language in chat is decided by the language of webpage on which chat is present. You do not need to make any configuration in iFlyChat for this, as long as language for your webpage on your website is defined. If language is not defined then chat will default to English (US) language.
Does it support Multi-Lingual websites?
Yes, iFlyChat is compatible with multi-lingual websites as well. If language of different pages is different, then chat will pick up the correct language accordingly.

Changes on Plugin’s Settings Page as mentioned before, the iFlyChat Setting’s Page has been changed significantly. It has been divided into two sections:
  • Plugin Settings
  • App Dashboard

Please review both the sections carefully after updating.

Critical Changes in Chat Settings

  1. Guest Access – The access to guest users will be disabled once you update. To re-enable access for guest (unregistered) users, please follow steps at this link.
  2. Chat Visibility – Chat visibilty option on iFlyChat Settings Page has also been changed. Earlier it used to control visbiliy of both popup and embed chat. Introducing Chat Thread History! https://iflychat.com/blog/introducing-chat-thread-history https://iflychat.com/blog/introducing-chat-thread-history#respond Thu, 10 Mar 2016 12:00:26 +0000 https://iflychat.com/?p=1565

It is now possible to access the complete message history of a chat conversation directly from within popup chat window or embedded chat room. You may now load previous messages incrementally by navigating to the top of the thread.

In our web app, simply click on “load more messages” button and the chat would automatically show you previous 15 messages. You may continue to do so again and again until there are no more chat messages to load. 🙂

chat_thread_history_web_app

In our browser-based mobile app, you don’t need to tap on any button to load previous messages. Just scroll to the top in the chat view and the chat app auto loads the previous messages. 🙂

chat_thread_history_mobile_app (1)

How to get this update? Our chat application is cloud based. Hence this update is immediately available to everyone! 😉

The duration of chat history depends on the plan you are on. The details are as follows:

  • Enterprise Plan - 6 months
  • Professional Plan - 3 months
  • Basic Plan - 1 month
  • Free Plan - 1 week

The ability to review chat history directly from within chat app would allow users to follow-up any conversation that takes place when they were offline. We are working to index the chat archive and make it searchable. This functionality would be available later this year.

Got a question? Join us in chat. We would love to hear from you!

iFlyChat Mods for SMF and phpBB https://iflychat.com/blog/iflychat-mods-for-smf-and-phpbb https://iflychat.com/blog/iflychat-mods-for-smf-and-phpbb#respond Fri, 12 Sep 2014 12:00:32 +0000 https://iflychat.com/?p=1562

Simple Machines Forum (SMF) and phpBB are two of the most popular forum management systems available these days. Forum softwares are quite useful for building a strong and active community. iFlyChat also aims to do the same. We are strongly dedicated in helping websites build a strong community base with our chat software. So, we thought how useful it will be for forum softwares to have a chat functionality as well. Thus, we started moving in this direction and developed plugins/mods for Simple Machine Forum (SMF) and phpBB. Just like integrations with other CMSs, chat mods for SMF and phpBB are also very easy to install and have all the features. We are quite excited about this and would like to see how our chat software can improve user engagement on forums.

Do you run an SMF or phpBB based forums? Would like to have a chat functionality for your users? Please get in touch with us and we will get you started in no time!

What information is saved on iFlyChat servers? https://iflychat.com/blog/what-information-is-saved-on-iflychat-servers https://iflychat.com/blog/what-information-is-saved-on-iflychat-servers#respond Thu, 17 Jul 2014 12:00:40 +0000 https://iflychat.com/?p=1559

Recently some customers have inquired about the data stored on iFlyChat servers. We don’t store any user login information like password or active session token. We create a different access token for access to iFlyChat servers and then use it for establishing a communication link.

We store following information temporarily:

  • user id
  • user name
  • user avatar URL
  • user profile link
  • user role

We use this information to render our chat UI correctly with necessary details. This information is also used to check if a user has access to certain chat rooms. Moreover, this information is automatically deleted from our server within two hours after the user has gone offline.

To enhance security further, we load chat automatically over SSL if your website is also on SSL.

Apart from this, we also offer the ability to log chat messages on our cloud based servers. The chat messages are logged if you have enabled logging on settings/configuration page of our chat module/plugin.

Alternatively, you can also use our JavaScript API to log messages directly to your database. When you are using this option, you can choose to turn off logging on our cloud network. This way chat messages will only be logged to your DB and our servers will only act as relay for transmitting chat messages.

We also support client side encryption. This would allow you to encrypt chat messages before they are sent to our cloud network and then later on you can decrypt it on receiving side, thereby enhancing security further.

Do get in touch with us and provide feedback in our live chat room 🙂

DrupalChat module stable release 7.x-1.0 is out https://iflychat.com/blog/drupalchat-module-stable-release-7-x-1-0-is-out https://iflychat.com/blog/drupalchat-module-stable-release-7-x-1-0-is-out#respond Tue, 01 Jul 2014 12:00:37 +0000 https://iflychat.com/?p=1533

We are glad to announce stable release of DrupalChat module for Drupal 7 websites. The chat module now supports all versions of jQuery. This has been quite tricky to accomplish considering the fact that we need to support all versions of jQuery from 1.4.4 onwards.

drupal7

Our DrupalChat module for Drupal 7 comes with three polling methods. The polling method decides which backend will the chat module use for handling chat requests. These are listed below:

Here, Normal AJAX and Long Polling use your website server’s resouce to handle chat processing. We recommend using Normal AJAX out of them. These methods offer following features:

  • One-to-one chat (private chat)
  • Public Chat room
  • Show user name, profile picture and profile link in chat
  • Render hyperlinks in chat messages
  • Provides a sleek chat bar at bottom right of the browser
  • Selectable list of Online Users (Once you choose a particular user to chat with, it creates a new tab adjacent to the chat bar along with an attached pop-up chat window)
  • Supports chat for anonymous users
  • Provides chat logging and message inbox functionality
  • Supports smileys (detects them automatically in chat messages)
  • Provides notification sound when a new chat message is received
  • Notifies user by blinking browser title bar and chat popup when a new chat message is received
  • Provides optional integration with User Relationships

Alternatively, you can use our commercial version by switching to iFlyChat Servers polling method. This polling method includes all of the above features along with many more:

Testing, Testing, and some more Testing https://iflychat.com/blog/testing-testing-and-some-more-testing https://iflychat.com/blog/testing-testing-and-some-more-testing#respond Mon, 30 Jun 2014 12:00:37 +0000 https://iflychat.com/?p=1167

The biggest mistake of a product developer is not testing his/her product rigorously. Results can be disastrous. This is the reason why we allocate sufficient time to it. We always try to maintain a balance between enhancements, testing and bug fixing. We did testing of all the basic functionalities before alpha release of iFlyChat, and, now also we are continuing with it.

Since the day we have launched the alpha release, we are doing extensive testing. While doing so, we came across an innovative way of doing it. The idea is that “we, the developers of product, know the product too well and as its developer can not see many bugs”. Point taken. So, according to it, testing should happen in an environment where developers of a product are not involved. It can be done by someone who is stranger(like first time users) to the product. Today we invited some friends, with their laptops, to help us out. We provided them a test site with iFlyChat/DrupalChat installed (and locked them up in a room 😀 ). They opened this test site in different browsers, and, chatted amongst themselves. They came out with a huge list of bugs, and since then we are Fixing, Fixing and some more Fixing. But the happiest thing is that we didn’t encounter any disastrous bugs and have some little fellas to fix.

Source invisionpower.com

And, for those who don’t know this process of testing is called Exploratory Testing. In our opinion, it is cool and awesome, and trust us, this will for sure help you in finding those little clever bugs (in your product) which escape the eyes of developers. You Young Entrepreneurs like us, do try it, and thank us later!

Do share your experience here.

au revoir
