I have tested to change the theme for chat but it seems not to be any differents between Dark or Light.
I have also some doubts that avatars is really working as I have tested with WP standard and local none of them seems to be working in chat-window.
I'm using latest version of WP 3.4.2.
I have also one remark that chat-windows appears in popup windows in WP dont know if that can be changed?

Theme Dark vs Light
We currently only support light theme. We may support dark theme in near future. You can still customize the look of your chat via other options present on iFlyChat settings page.
Regarding avatars are you using any specifc WP plugin for this?
Also, our chat usually appears as popup. We do support embedded chatroom. Are you interested in this?

We are using a plugin which we can set local avatars but its only 2 users which use this rest use wp monsterid avatars but these seems not appear either. We have found the settings to change colors etc so thats fine. But we still have doubts that monsterid avatars works with your code.
The embedded chat can you explain the feature and how this works, can be intersting for us.
Regarding popup thats fine but what we mean is when we open a new popup windows the chat appears even there. We think it should be a setting if we as users want this or not.
Both light and dark themes can be used now.
